PRISM is an NSA clandestine program collecting internet communications. Launched in 2007, PRISM's capabilities include retrieval of encrypted communications and previously-discarded data. Existence revealed by NSA 'Whistleblower' Edward Snowden. Numerous allegations have been made of misuse, although the US Government has defended it's use citing it's effective use against terrorism.
