CKTAW - (CIA) Operation to tap communications cables between the Krasnaya Pakhra Nuclear Weapons Institute, Troitsk to the Soviet Ministry of Defence, Moscow. 1981. Personnel for the operation were carefully selected, trained and rehearsed in the US before deployment in the USSR. Exceptionally successful, but later betrayed by disaffected sacked CIA officer. Known as BILLIARD BALL by the KGB after compromise.
